NUM labels DA’s rejection of Marokane as racist

JOHANNESBURG - NUM says the DA's rejection of Dan Marokane’s appointment as Eskom CEO is racially motivated.

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has also come under criticism after Friday's announcement.

The DA says Marokane is partly to blame for the current financial crisis at the utility.

It says as Group Capital Head between 2010 and 2015 he has to be held accountable.

"The DA is playing politics," said Khangela Baloyi, NUM Energy Sector Coordinator.

"When the former CEO was appointed, the DA welcomed him.

"It is amazing now that a black CEO is appointed and the DA is actually against this black CEO."
