POLOKWANE - The intimidation of motorists by taxi drivers is a growing problem in the country.
From e-hailing driver Mthokozisi Mvelase killed outside Maponya Mall to a family of three being dragged out of their own vehicle in KZN.
But now three Limpopo taxi operators have got their own back.
They tried to intimidate undercover police officers during an anti-smuggling operation.
Believing the officers were transporting hitchhikers the suspects pointed a gun and threatened to sjambok the cops.
They were arrested after trying to flee when the officers identified themselves.
Limpopo police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba said police are going to act without fear or favour.
"We are faced with people doing as they please, conducting themselves with impunity.
"We cannot allow our people to be held to ransom by those undermining the law and behaving in an unethical manner," he said.
