Restore Power Grid | 400MW coming from Mozambique: Ramokgopa

JOHANNESBURG - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says 400 megawatts received from neighboring countries will contribute to bolstering South Africa's transmission lines.

This extra capacity will significantly reduce blackouts.

"We did make the point that we are making every effort to import the additional capacity from neighbouring countries and an additional 400 megawatts of power is already being imported from Mozambique following the strengthening of the transmission line to South Africa and I did make the point about the work we are doing with Mozambique but this was a technical solution as a result of strengthening those lines," he said.

Ramokgopa also explained that reducing planned outages helps maintain higher generation capacity for peak demand.
