SAPS turmoil | Ad Hoc Committee programme to be finalised

CAPE TOWN - The parliamentary committee probing alleged corruption and political interference in the police is finalising its programme for the coming three months.

The cut-off date for the finalised programme is 8 August.

The committee was established after KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made bombshell claims about Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, top police officers and the judiciary.

Ad Hoc Committee Member, Ian Cameron says at the moment they are still waiting for the draft of reference from Parliament's legal team.

This draft he says was requested on 5 August to enable the committee to make relevant submissions from all the different political parties.

"It was suggested that every political party should be able to send their submissions before Friday 12pm. By then the terms of reference can be finalised and circulated to all the members of the Ad Hoc committee," he said.

Cameron emphasised the importance of meeting the deadline as failure to do so may raise frustration.

"What was made clear within the committee is that no other process must be allowed to dictate the way we do our work," he said.

ANC MP Soviet Lekganyane will lead the ad-hoc committee investigating claims made by Mkhwanazi.

Kganyago has underlined the difference between the parliamentary committee and the judicial commission of inquiry into the alleged police corruption.
