SA's electricity crisis | Eskom extends blackouts
JOHANNESBURG - Beleaguered power utility Eskom has extended rolling blackouts until Monday.
Stage 1 power cuts will be implemented during the day while Stage 2 will kick in from 4pm until 5am.
Eskom says the extension of blackouts is warranted in order to preserve emergency generation reserves.
This is due to high levels of breakdowns and delays in returning some units to service.
The troubled power supplier says generating units at various power stations were offline for repairs on Thursday.
Delays in returning units to service at Majuba and Tutuka power stations have caused generation capacity constraints.
