SA’s electricity crisis | Fire breaks out at Matla Power Station

A fire has broken out at Unit 6 of the Matla Power station in Mpumalanga.

JOHANNESBURG - A fire broke out at Matla Power Station just outside of Kriel in Mpumalanga on Wednesday.

It's believed a fuel system leak on one of the oil burners on Unit 6 may have been the cause.

The fire broke out at around 2pm and was brought under control before it flared up again later.

Sources have told eNCA the damage could take close to three months to fix.

Sabotage, according to our sources, has been ruled out at this stage.
