SA's electricity crisis | Govt scraps State of Disaster with immediate effect

CoGTA Minister Thembi Nkadimeng has decided to end the National State of Disaster after consultations with Eskom, government and the private sector.

JOHANNESBURG - Government has scrapped the electricity National State of Disaster with immediate effect.

The sweeping regulations gazetted in February allowed then Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, to exempt critical infrastructure from rolling blackouts.

It also allowed the minister to green-light finances through emergency procurement.

Government has now commited to use existing legislation to combat the energy crisis.
