Sibanyoni fights bail conditions

DELMAS - Taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni has appeared in the Delmas Magistrate's Court, wanting his bail conditions relaxed.

His lawyer says Sibanyoni and his co-accused have been reporting to police as required and argues there’s no reason for that condition to remain.

Sibanyoni and three co-accused face extortion and money-laundering charges linked to allegations that more than R2.2-million was taken from mining businessman Thomas Ntuli, as alleged protection fees.

But Sibanyoni denies this, saying Ntuli was a business associate who borrowed R900,000 from him, money he says was later repaid.

The defence is also seeking further details from the State, including the charge sheet. The defence has also raised concerns about police record-keeping.

Meanwhile, Sibanyoni is due at the Madlanga Commission on 21 September for cross-examination.
