JOHANNESBURG - The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has secured a Special Tribunal order forcing the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee to repay nearly R25 million unlawfully diverted from a National Lotteries Commission grant.
The Tribunal declared the R24.98 million payment from the NLC to SASCOC unlawful.
It found the grant was tainted by misrepresentation, maladministration, and unlawful enrichment.

An SIU investigation found that money earmarked for a 2016 Rio Olympics roadshow campaign was diverted to individuals and companies, and to support youth and sports organisations was instead used to enrich individuals and companies linked to a former Lotteries Commission official.
Ironbridge Travel Agency and Mshandukani Holdings were the biggest recipients, collecting R15 million and R7.2 million respectively.
