JOHANNESBURG - There has been strong reaction following the leadership change at the Department of Higher Education and Training.
Nobuhle Nkabane has been removed as minister amid the ongoing scandal involving the appointment of ANC-linked chairpersons to the SETA boards.
She has been replaced by Buti Manamela, who now steps into the role of Minister.
The South African Union of Students has weighed in.
Its Secretary-General, Nhlonipho Nxumalo, says the union welcomes the change but wants the appointment process at SETAs to be restarted.
Nxumalo emphasised the need for capable, qualified individuals to be placed in key positions.
She added that the union is committed to working with the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education to ensure the sector runs smoothly and that a productive relationship is built.
