Trial against former eThekwini mayor continues

DURBAN - The graft trial against former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede has resumed at the Durban High Court.

She and 21 others are accused of unduly benefiting from a R300-million solid waste tender.

The trial has been set down until 18 August, but there have already been several delays.

The defense team is trying to prove the forensic firm investigating the corruption was irregularly appointed.

Shawn Hittler, the state’s second witness, has reiterated Integrity Forensics Services was partly chosen since it was already probing one of the implicated companies.
