Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink was at the station and posted this video just after 2pm.
There's no word yet about how long the outage will last.
He said, "I was informed that a fire had broken out. This is the cause of the power outage affecting several areas."
"Emergency services were on the scene. The damage is largely contained. We can only assess extent once fire is out."
"As a city we are here, on site, assessing damage and making sure work is done to restore power even though we can't give a credible timeline at this point."
