JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water has partly blamed Ebony Park residents for years of erratic water supply.
The Johannesburg community has had intermittent water flow for three years.
This has made them suspicious that the problem is manufactured for financial gain.
But Johannesburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala said water challenges are not only bound to Ebony Park.
She said similar issues are also witnessed in Kaalfontein and the greater Ivory Park.

According to Shabalala, this is because the system that supplies these areas, which is President Park Reservoir and Tower, is highly constrained, leaving the water utility to resort to throttling daily in order to build capacity.
“We throttle the system every day at two o'clock, and we open it again at four o'clock the following morning. This is so that the reservoir is not completely depleted.
"Within the mid-range system, these areas have the highest number of illegal connections. We also struggle a lot in terms of population expansion in these areas. There are a lot of informal settlements and they continue to grow, so the available demand is outstripping supply.'”
