EASTERN CAPE - A 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, whose body was found inside a suitcase in a pond near a dumping site in the Eastern Cape.
The woman's body was discovered by a young boy and his friend on Sunday, 15 March, who then alerted authorities.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said emergency services were called to the scene, where the victim was declared dead.

Gantana said a multidisciplinary team was immediately established to investigate the case, leading to the arrest of the alleged suspect within 24 hours.
"The boyfriend of the deceased was arrested and is currently in police custody. The suspect is expected to appear before the Aliwal North Magistrate Court soon on charges of murder," Gantana said.
Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Thandiswa Kupiso commended members involved in the investigation for their swift response.
"The quick arrest demonstrates our commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring that those responsible for such brutal acts are brought before the courts," Kupiso. said.
Police said investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
