CAPE TOWN – Women from Overcome Heights near Muizenberg in the Western Cape have chained themselves to the gates of Parliament.
They are protesting the spate of shootings in Cape Town's gang-infested areas.

Community leader Karen Mentoor says residents are tired of empty promises.
“We have been to so many imbizos and submitted our memorandums, but we get no answers. During these imbizos you see 20 police vans only to protect the MEC. Where is the protection for communities? Only one van comes out. We are not safe, our kids and our community are not safe.”
Mentoor says residents have forced themselves into a lockdown every day from 5pm.
“We want President Ramaphosa to tell us about the safety plans,” she demands.
