JOHANNESBURG - Voters with disabilities, including those who are blind or have visual impairments, have the right to receive assistance when casting their ballots, according to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).
The IEC says voters may choose a companion aged 18 or older to assist them at the voting station.

However, the companion cannot be a candidate in the election or an election agent.
The provision is aimed at ensuring voters with disabilities can exercise their right to vote and participate in the electoral process.
Special voting will take place on 2 and 3 November, allowing eligible voters whose applications have been approved to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.
