JOHANNESBURG - The Department of International Relations and Cooperation says Nathi Mthethwa flew South Africa's flag high as ambassador to France.
Mthethwa fell to his death from the 22nd floor of a hotel in Paris.
French authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his demise.
Last week, Kwazulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi implicated the late ambassador in the alleged infiltration of the South African Police Service.
There were expectations for Mthethwa to appear before the Madlanga Commision following Mkhwanazi's allegations.
DIRCO has asked South Africans not to be speculative or draw conclusions as officials investigate this unfortunate incident.
