Expert: If Mogotsi is an 'informer', his behaviour is contrary to SAPS regulation

JOHANNESBURG - Crime researcher and expert Thabang Bogopa says the fact that Brown Mogotsi alleges that he was an informer for 25 years needs to be investigated.

According to Bogopa, informers become dormant over time.

This makes it almost impossible that Mogotsi could have been active for so long.

The controversial businessman alleged before the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkwanazi was a CIA agent.

He also alleged that AmaZulu King Misizulu kaZwelithini was one as well and attempted to orchestrate the assassination of his brother Prince Simakade.

The bases of his allegation was that Mkhwanazi was trained in the US, meanwhile the Zulu King was educated in the US.

Mogotsi told the Commission that he had no proof to back up his allegation, but was merely 'mabaribari' (hearsay).

Senior Counsel Matthew Chaskalson called Mogotsi out on his allegations of being an undercover operative.

"In South Africa, we don't have an informer calling themselves an agent. Unless the person is employed by the intelligence services as an undercover operative," says Bogopa.
