Influencers advised to declare social media earnings to SARS

JOHANNESBURG - Tax specialists seem to agree that SARS has every right to require declaration of gift payments during jobs or services.

That's because these are part of revenue earned.

This affects social media influencers, whose earnings are not always in the form of money.

"You will have to declare anything you are receiving through social media. It's a form of income and must be taxed. It's a new model which can enable SARS to collect about half-a-billion," Tax Practitioner, Lerry Mohlamonyane explained.
