SA in a knives edge as all eyes are on Ramaphosa to act on Mkhwanazi's allegations

JOHANNESBURG -  All eyes are now on President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This as the country now waits on the president to see how he will address the allegations leveled by Kwazulu-Natal Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi

These allegation wherein he accused Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of political interference in sensitive investigations.

Pierre Geldenhys from D&K Management Consultants says while rapid action is needed the President must act with wisdom.

He says Mkhwanazi's claims are big enough and have caught the attention of the country.

" All I am hoping for is that the President does not take these claims and say everything that the public wants to hear.

"For instance saying they would investigate, launch a platform for a committee to look into the matter and sort of sweep it under the carpet and wait for one of two months to come by for the next big story to come," Geldenhys.

He claims that data extracted from the phone of alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala links the minister to unauthorised communications through an associate, Brown Mogotsi.

Matlala, arrested in May for attempted murder, is also reportedly the recipient of a R360 million police contract.

Geldenhys says if claims made by the provincial commissioner are found true it would open a can of warms.

"This will start a fear and mistrust in police which has already been there for many years. Much more could take place if all these accusations are proven the government must make sure that this does not explode further to the public. It could become very dangerous.
