Pitbulls | Is banning the breed the answer?

JOHANNESBURG - Global insights show that blanket bans on specific breeds of dog don't work.

A spate of violent incidents involving pitbulls has led to calls for the breed to be banned as pets in the country.

But the Pitbull Federation of South Africa says bans in other countries have had limited to no effect.

It says you cannot blame a dog for a failure of adequate law enforcement.

The federation says owners need to take responsibility for their dogs and if they cannot, there are avenues of help available.
