EPISODE SUMMARY

#TheDeviShow is taking a well-earned production break but we’re not ditching you with an empty screen. We remind you of the most unusual peeps (and past times) we’ve had the pleasure of inviting onto the show. This week – it’s all about South Africans carving out unusual career paths!

REFILWE THE PILOT

Refilwe Ledwaba’s career took off when she applied to be a cabin attendant on a local airline – a few years later, she had qualified to fly the plane. But that wasn’t enough for this inspirational leader and she soared to become South Africa’s first black female helicopter pilot. Her success motivated her to advocate for girls’ education and youth development in the country - we caught up with this pioneering aviator just before she took off on her next adventure.

BALLOON PILOT – SEMA MATHEBULA

Her office is the open skies and her desk a basket which sways in the wind. Sounds romantic? Well, it depends on the weather. Sema Mathebula thrives on hot air, a lot of it. She is South Africa’s first black female hot air balloon pilot and for her, the sky is really the limit.

BRAD BINDER

From the age of 12 this talented sportsman has travelled from track to track seeing the world, today his natural ability to race motorcycles has seen him flying the South African flag on many podiums. He’s now 26 and is making history in so many ways. The Devi Show caught up with the fastest South African on two wheels, the rookie who became a world champion - Krugersdorp’s Brad Binder.
