CAPE TOWN - The Cape Town Marathon has become the continent's first Abbott World major race.
This follows the successful staging of this year's edition on the 24th of last month.
The event passed the second and final stage of its Abbott World Marathon Majors assessment.

The race is now the eighth most prestigious marathon in the world.
It joins Tokyo, Boston, London, Sydney, Berlin, Chicago and New York.
The first major of the Cape Town Marathon will formally commence on 23 May 2027.
