JOHANNESBURG – Afrikaners emigrating to the USA as refugees will soon regret their decision.
These are views of eNCA followers who are engaging on the Channel’s social media platforms about the first group of 49 Afrikaners who have left South Africa.
They departed from OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday night and are expected to land in the US on Monday.
"Watch their status getting revoked soon once the Trump administration is out. A new logical POTUS [president of the US] that makes decisions after thorough investigations, not emotions, will cancel this unfounded conspiracy," says @Sandile312 on X.
@BigDhara11 on X adds the following: "This is a mockery to South Africa, the constitution, values and all that it stands for. The government should cancel their [citizenship], they must never return to South Africa again. USA must not dictate what other governments should do".
The move follows US President Donald Trump's criticism of the Expropriation Act, claiming land was being confiscated from Afrikaners and that they were being treated badly.
"I hope they know the grass is not always greener and the fact that they are going to be living in rural parts of America is even worse. They’re in for a major culture shock when they see their new living conditions," says Rishana Singh on Facebook.
Some believe this is Trump’s strategy to lure South African farmers to the US.
"South Africa has got the best farmers in the world, Trump wants to use them so they [USA] stop buying from us. That's the strategy," says Bongiwe Mtshali on Facebook.
