AFU freezes assets linked to Tembisa Hospital corruption case

JOHANNESBURG - The Asset Forfeiture Unit has obtained two preservation orders against two syndicates involved in corruption at Tembisa Hospital.

This follows a report into suspicious transactions picked up by Babita Deokaran, who was assassinated three years ago.

National Treasury's Specialised Audit Services Unit detailed procurement irregularities at the hospital.

The unit has been granted an order to freeze assets worth over 400-million rand belonging to individuals in the Maumela and Mazibuko syndicates.

These include luxury properties and vehicles.
