CAPE TOWN - The National Prosecuting Authority has denied deliberately bungling the Timothy Omotoso rape trial.
Advocate Shamila Batohi fended off criticism from MPs and called on South Africans not to lose faith in the justice system.
Omotoso and his two co-accused were acquitted on a technicality in April.
The judge ruled the prosecution mishandled parts of the case and failed to properly cross-examine the accused.
The trio faced over 30 serious charges - including rape, human trafficking, and racketeering.
Batohi says, despite the public’s perception of an NPA that cannot protect the public from the criminal elements of society, they are trying their best.
