Brown Mogotsi submits medical certificate to Madlanga Commission

PRETORIA - Political fixer Brown Mogotsi has submitted his medical certificate to the Madlanga Commission after failing to appear on Monday, citing illness.

The certificate will be considered at the next sitting on Wednesday. 

Th commission previously warned that it would take a tougher stance against witnesses who fail to appear.

Last week, proceedings were adjourned after a Crime Intelligence witness also failed to show up, citing illness.

This came after proceedings had to be adjourned last week for the day when Crime Intelligence witness failed appear before the commission, citing illness.

At the time commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels expressed concern over this matter saying the commission runs a risk of witnessing a recuring theme.

He said commissioners may subpoena doctors to prove their patients are indeed ill.

He reiterated that stance following Mogotsi’s absence, saying the commission would not tolerate witnesses coming up with last minute illnesses. 

 

He said to some extent the commissioners could view such as a contempt. 

Mogotsi has also told the commission he has no lawyer.

A legal expert said that shouldn't be an issue, but it could mean further delays.

Proceedings will resume on Wednesday with Major-General Richard Shibiri expected to take the stand.
