Cape Town woman fatally shot ahead of 'Silencing The Guns' launch

CAPE TOWN - A 30-year-old woman was shot in Hiedeveld on the Cape Flats on Saturday. Two kilometres away, a Silencing The Guns launch was being held in Manenberg.

Ironically, the event, which was held on Women's Day, is aimed at reducing gun violence in the region.

While investigations continue, the victim's family believes she was killed as she was a witness in a gang-related murder case. She was killed in a drive-by shooting.

Police officials say the police need to improve their intelligence. They say that they have found that some illegal guns enter the province via Namibia.

Many of the guns are stolen from private security companies, while others are not reported to the state when the owners die.

CPF, neighbourhood watches, and police believe that teaming up may help put an end to the violence.
