ConCourt upholds Vodacom's leave to appeal in 'Please Call Me' case

JOHANNESBURG - The Constitutional Court has upheld Vodacom's rights for leave to appeal in  “Please Call Me” battle between Nkosana Makate and the South African mobile communications company. 

The matter was referred back to the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The judgment was handed down by Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, who is retiring today.

Vodacom is appealing a Supreme Court of Appeal ruling that overturned its initial R47-million offer.

Makate rejected the offer in 2019.

He's demanding R9.4 billion, claiming Vodacom has profited from his invention for 25 years.

Makate insists he pitched the idea to his former employer in exchange for a share of the revenue.
