JOHANNESBURG - The High Court in Pretoria has ordered President Cyril Ramaphosa to provide reasons for signing the National Health Insurance Bill into law.
Ramaphosa approved the contentious act last year.
Health organisations and political parties cried foul, saying it's unsustainable.
The Board of Health Funders and the South African Private Practitioners Forum brought an application to court in a bid to stop its implementation. The court says Ramaphosa's decision is reviewable.
The President has been directed to provide records of reasons for his decision within 10 days.
The Board of Healthcare Funders hails the ruling as a victory for rule of law.
