Eskom announces stage 2 and 3 power cuts

JOHANNESBURG - It may be a new year, but Eskom still has the same problems.

The short-lived blackout-free days are over. 

Stage 2 power cuts have been implemented from 5am this morning until 4pm this afternoon.

Stage 3 will then kick in until 5am on Wednesday.

This rotation will continue until further notice.

The power utility says it's had a setback with three generating units not coming back online after maintenance coupled with the loss of six generating units.
