Firoz Cachalia sworn in as acting Police Minister

JOHANNESBURG - Professor Firoz Cachalia has been sworn in as a Minister at the Union Buildings.

He steps into the role of Acting Police Minister.

It comes after President Ramaphosa placed Senzo Mchunu on special leave.

He's been accused of colluding with criminals and interfering in police work.

Parliament and the Madlanga Commission is looking into those allegations.

Cachalia has previously served as Gauteng Community Safety MEC.

He becomes the first Minister in Ramaphosa’s administration appointed from outside Parliament.
