Germiston calm after Home Affairs torched in eviction riot

JOHANNESBURG - Police are keeping an eye on the situation in Germiston this Wednesday morning, after violent protests in the area on Tuesday.

Hundreds of residents who were evicted from city-owned housing led a riot that ended with the torching of the local Home Affairs building.

Two people were arrested for arson and are expected in court this morning.

They are also charged with vandalism, defying a court order, and damage to property.
