Indefinite Stage 4 blackouts implemented

JOHANNESBURG - Bad news on the electricity front.Stage 4 blackouts have been implemented since 2:30am on Wednesday.

Eskom says this is due to insufficient emergency reserves and capacity, as a result of four generating units not returning to service as planned.

The escalated power cuts will continue until further notice.

The ailing power utility says it will monitor the system and communicate should any significant changes occur.

Meanwhile, Electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa told our reporter Heidi Giokos he was confident the intensity of blackouts will lessen.
