Itireleng shack fire | I feel like I could die, says victims’ grandmother

PRETORIA - The grandmother of the five children who died in a shack fire says she wishes she could be with them.

The five children, aged between one and seven years old, died in a fire over the weekend after being left unattended.

"When I got here, I found the children's ashes. The neighbours were here and cried with me. they held me and explained how this happened," said Joanna Masongani.

"I feel like I could die and go with those kids because I stayed with them and took care of them."

Meanwhile, the Laudium CPF says they will be laying culpable homicide charges against the two mothers.

CPF chairperson Shaheen Wahab says community members are angry about what happened.
