JOHANNESBURG - Margaret Arnolds was elected as the new City of Joburg Council Speaker, for the second time on Thursday.
Arnold received 137 votes of the 210 valid votes cast. Alex Christian received 63 votes. 39 votes were spoilt.
The vote follows the recent removal of ActionSA’s Nobuhle Mthembu. She was fired last week following an Al Jama-ah motion of no confidence.

Arnolds, who hails from Eldorado Park, South of Joburg, is no stranger to the metro leadership. She was the MMC for community development and also served as MMC for environment & infrastructure services.
This is going to be Arnold's second run as the speaker, after she held the position for about nine months between November 2023 and August 2024.
