CAPE TOWN - Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has set the record straight on the timing of his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team
He insisted there was nothing irregular about issuing the directive to diband the Political Killings Task Team on December 31st while the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola was on leave.

He also told the members of Parliament that his use of the word “immediate” in the directive was not meant to be taken literally.
"Immediate should never be read outside of preliminary report, outside, in reference to the preliminary report. Two, it should never be read outside the meeting that was indicated in the directive of UNESCO because it will definitely be out of context.
"It would be like I just sent the word terminate immediately like a switch on the wall. Please, when you look at immediate, look at preliminary, look at the other meeting that was intended at the end of January. You will see that as we wrote in immediate, there was a clear indication, black and white, that there would be other engagements at a later stage."
Mchunu maintained that he did not act outside the Constitution or his legislative powers when issuing the letter
