Nafiz Modack sentenced to 10 years for corruption

CAPE TOWN | Alleged underworld kingpin Nafiz Modack has been sentenced to ten years in prison, with three years suspended.

The corruption conviction follows a bombshell plea deal from former police officer Kolindren Govender, who admitted to 51 charges.

Govender confessed to protecting Modack from police investigations in exchange for R150,000 in bribes.

The corruption is said to have taken place in 2011 and it took nearly 14 years to have Modack convicted.

Some of the reasons that this case took so long to resolve, was that some of the final witnesses testified only last year.

Modack is also facing a string of charges including murders, attempted murder, tax fraud, extortion and other related crimes.

Investigators are still digging into the above charges as Modack and his co-accused will continue to appear in the Western Cape High Court.
