No water this weekend for these Joburg areas

JOHANNESBURG – Residents in parts of Johannesburg should brace themselves for dry taps as planned maintenance gets underway.

Johannesburg Water confirmed that the work will affect different areas between 10 hours and up to a week, depending on the location.

For this weekend, areas within the inner city of Johannesburg, particularly Johannesburg CBD, Newtown, Selby, Jeppestown and Doornfontein can expect low water pressure to no water from Friday at 8am until Sunday at 6pm.

The maintenance involves the installation of new valves on a bypass chamber.

In parts of Midrand, water pressure may already be low as maintenance has already commenced, as of Thursday at 9am.

Work will be competed at 9pm on the same day.

Meanwhile, residents in parts of Orlando and Diepkloof may well use this weekend to make alternative arrangements for water ahead of a week-long outage.

This as communities in those areas are scheduled to have no water from 16 March at 7am and until 20 March at 7pm.

Johannesburg Water said the work forms part of a dummy run ahead of structural repairs to the leaking Aeroton Reservoir.
