Omotoso expected to take on Home Affairs over his arrest

EAST LONDON - Nigerian televangelist, Timothy Omotoso, will remain in South Africa after a court ruled that Home Affairs didn't follow proper arrest procedures at the weekend.

East London Magistrate, Kevin von Bratt's decision follows the department's previous rejection of Omotoso's residency application, deeming him a prohibited person.

eNCA's Ronald Masinda reports that the judgment comes over a month after the 66-year-old, and two others, were acquitted on all 32 charges including rape, human trafficking and racketeering.

Despite his current freedom, the legal battle isn't over for the self-proclaimed Man of God.

The National Prosecuting Authority is determined to challenge Judge Irma Schoeman's decision that the state didn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the Nigerian and his co-accused were guilty.

As the saga continues, Omotoso is expected to mount a legal challenge of his own. He plans to legally challenge the Department of Home Affairs' decision in the High Court.
