Parents gather at East Rand school as classes resume after pupil attack

VOSLOORUS - Parents are gathered at Thuto-Lesedi Secondary as classes resume at the school in Vosloorus, Gauteng.

Tensions erupted last week after a Grade 8 boy was attacked by a group of fellow pupils.

The boy suffered injuries to his eye and nose, and needed to be admitted to hospital.

The Gauteng Department of Education sent officials to engage with pupils and parents.

The parents are unhappy with how the attack was handled.

Gauteng Educations spokesperson Steve Mabona however argues other wise.

He says he is concerned about the parents reaction irrespective of the departments commitment to take decisive action.

"We did give information to there are other three [pupils] whom they need to interact with to get to understand their involvement in the alleged assault. We are waiting on them to move swiftly on that," he says

Mabona emphasised that police are doing their work and that parents must allow the law to take its cause.

"You can not just arrest people without having investigated. We need to give police time to do their work... In the meantime pupils should be in school." he said.
