Power plant breakdowns suspicious - Ramakgopa

PRETORIA - Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is not completely ruling out sabotage.

Eskom has suffered a setback, plunging the country back to stage 3 rolling blackouts.

On Friday the power utility announced the implementation of these blackouts that are expected to go on until Monday morning.

It said the decision was taken after Eskom lost 2,700 megawatts.

Ramakgopa says the failure of units in different power stations are non-technical issues but look like mischievous acts by certain individuals.

He says uncomfortable discussions and decisions need to be taken to address these unplanned unit failures.
