JOHANNESBURG - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says an agreement with China has been because of the role the country plays in the energy space.
The agreement was signed during President Xi Jinping's state visit on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.
Chinese companies will provide Eskom with technology to try and alleviate power cuts.
This is in addition to a generous R167m donation.
Ramakgopa has also sounded an alarm on the impact of illegal connections have, on transformers.
He says municipalities do not have enough funds to replace or refurbish them.
At the same time, Ramokgopa has promised South Africans that there will be no compromise on planned maintenance.
He was giving his weekly update on the Energy Action Plan on Sunday.
