SAPS hosts KZN rural safety summit

DURBAN - The office of the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner will hold a two-day Provincial Rural Safety Summit to address policing matters and the challenges involved.

The summit will brainstorm solutions to crimes affecting rural communities.

The province has been plagued by violent crimes, including the killing of traditional leaders as well as suspected criminals.

Livestock theft and illicit meat trade have also been described as a major issue.

The meat is commonly sold at street corners and taxi ranks.

Speaking at a summit held in Vryheid, KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi encouraged communities to buy only from credible retailers.
