School bullying | Independent probe into pupil's death

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Education Department is set to establish an independent investigation into the death of a Grade 6 pupil in Katlehong this week.

Sibusiso Mbatha (12) hanged himself on Monday after his school teacher allegedly made homophobic comments against him.

Mbatha was laid to rest on Saturday.

"After hearing on more in terms of the allegations, the seriousness that we're taking this matter, we felt that let's have someone independent investigate give us the report so that we'll know what position to take moving forward," said department spokesperson Steve Mabona.
