Self-confessed child killer Amber Lee-Hughes to know her fate

JOHANNESBURG - The High Court in Johannesburg will hand down judgment in the Amber Lee-Hughes murder trial.

The former preschool teacher stands accused of raping and killing her ex-boyfriend's 4-year-old daughter, Nada-Jane Chalita, in 2023.

Last month, Hughes admitted to drowning the child, but denied the rape charge.

The court heard final arguments from both the state and the defence three weeks ago.

The state argued the killing was driven by a dispute between Hughes and the child’s father.
