Taxi Violence | CT Police on alert after chaos

CAPE TOWN - Police monitoring Cape Town CBD following Tuesday's chaos when taxi operators blocked streets during evening rush hour.

This came after taxis were impounded.

Santaco in the Western Cape is questioning this, saying the latest behaviour by the city is extortion.

The City has also issued a stern warning ahead of a potential strike by the industry.

It’s calling on taxi operators to refrain from violence, intimidation and attacks on other public transport operators.

The Council says while it welcomes government enforcing by-laws, some of the faults only require a fine.
