Thousands of Sassa grant recipients not paid in January

JOHANNESBURG - More than 150,000 Sassa beneficiaries have not received their grant payments for January.

The agency has blamed the payment glitch on a verification process.

It says affected recipients provided incorrect banking information during grant applications or changed their payment methods.

According to the agency, it undertakes a verification process of banking details, names, addresses and ID numbers every month to prevent fraud.

Last year, Sassa came under fire after thousands of recipients were left in the lurch following several glitches within its payment system.
