JOHANNESBURG - After nearly four years offline, Unit 4 at Medupi Power station is finally back online - eight months before schedule.
The unit was successfully returned to service last night.
This means 800 megawatts has been added to national grid.

The unit had been offline since August 2021 after sustaining significant damage from
the explosion of its Generator Stator. Now, all six units at Medupi Station are operational.
Eskom says this will contribute a combined capacity of 4,800 megawatts to the grid once the unit reaches full output in the coming weeks.
The utility is praising the return as a major milestone in its bid to strengthen South Africa's energy security.
