The 54-year-old made his first court appearance on Tuesday afternoon.

His case was postponed to today to allow adequate time for a formal bail application.

He is being charged with murder for allegedly shooting and killing Mbolekwa during a protest last week over poor living conditions at university residences.

Three other students were injured during the scuffle and taken to hospital.
